Description:
Torture behind bars represents the illegal torture and abuse that secretly accuses in many prisons and detention facilities today. Many feel that in light of resent news regarding the torture of prisoners in the war in the Far East could this be happening a lot closer to home. In most cases these men and women are dehumanised so as to make it easy for them to be treated in such abusive conditions.
In this piece I have attempted to capture the emotion of the inmate through his eyes. I wanted to explore the feeling of helplessness, despair and isolation. How would it feel to endure physical and mental abuse on a regular bases? How would you cope in this hostile environment if you had been falsely imprisoned? This also raises the question “is torture rehabilitation”?
